New research findings have demonstrated that precise control of thermoelectric coolers (TEC) can effectively reduce the operating temperature of PV modules and significantly enhance their electrical output power efficiency, with the potential to increase it by up to 9.27%. A research team developed a model integrating a solar system with a TEC and performed simulation experiments using MATLAB and the SCIP optimization toolbox. The model revealed that during summer conditions, the TEC can efficiently maintain the temperature of PV modules below 25°C, optimizing the performance of the solar cells and extending their lifespan.

 

Economically, the study also presents compelling data. Compared to a baseline system, a solar system with TEC-optimized control is projected to achieve a 10.56% reduction in costs over its entire 20-year lifespan. Moreover, the system is expected to reach a break-even point within 6.5 years of operation, indicating promising economic benefits. This innovative research not only offers an effective technical strategy for boosting the performance of solar systems but also presents an attractive economic return for investors.
